Akamai Edge DNS Integration Coming Q3 2025

Connect your Akamai Edge DNS to DNS Check and monitor your DNS records.

Prerequisites

  • An Akamai account with Edge DNS zones
  • API credentials with the following permissions:
    • DNS Zone Management Read-only
    • DNS Record Management Read-only

Creating API Credentials

  1. Log in to Akamai Control Center

Visit the Akamai Control Center and log in to your account.

  2. Create API Client

Navigate to Identity & Access > API Client and create a new client:

    • Give it a descriptive name (e.g., "DNS Check Integration")
    • Select the appropriate access level
    Creating a new API client
  3. Configure API Access

Add the following API services to your client:

    • DNS—Zone Management (Read-only)
    • DNS—Record Management (Read-only)
    Setting API permissions
  4. Save Credentials

After creating the client, you'll receive:

    • Client Token
    • Client Secret
    • Access Token

Make sure to save these somewhere safe - you won't be able to see them again!

Connecting to DNS Check

  1. Add Akamai Edge DNS integration

In DNS Check, go to Settings > Integrations and click "Add Akamai Edge DNS".

  2. Enter API credentials

Enter your Client Token, Client Secret, and Access Token.

  3. Select zones

Choose which DNS zones you want to monitor. DNS Check will automatically detect all available zones in your account.

Monitoring DNS Records

Once connected, DNS Check will:

  • Automatically detect all DNS records in your selected zones
  • Monitor for any changes to these records
  • Alert you when changes are detected
  • Keep a history of all changes for future reference

Security Note

DNS Check only requires read permissions and cannot make any changes to your DNS records. We recommend creating a dedicated API client with minimal permissions for security best practices.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues

  • "Unable to list zones"

This usually means the API client doesn't have the correct Zone Management permissions. Review the API client's access settings.

  • "Unable to fetch DNS records"

Verify that the API client has Record Management permissions for the zones you're trying to monitor.

  • "Authentication failed"

Double-check that you've entered the correct Client Token, Client Secret, and Access Token.
